St. John’s Concert Series presents Pictou County’s Carillon Singers
at St. John’s Parish Hall, 84 Townsend St. in Lunenburg, on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 pm.

The performance, which includes madrigals, folk songs, Broadway hits, Gershwin tunes and Oscar Peterson's well loved Hymn to Freedom, is sure to appeal to a broad audience. A selection of desserts and refreshments will be served at intermission.

Biographical notes:

Founded in 1996 in Pictou County, the Carillon Singers performs throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine. The choir has been recognized in the Legislature of Nova Scotia for their contribution to the musical life of the province. Last year the choir represented New Glasgow in the Provincial Music Festival. It has sung under the direction of internationally known conductors, Wayne Riddell, Diane Loomer and Monique Richard.

Director Jennifer Grout is a graduate of Mount Allison University and has studied choral conducting with Wayne Riddell, Diane Loomer and Jeff Joudrey. She was a founding member of Halifax Camerata Singers she has performed as soloist in the St. Cecilia Concert Series with Canadian pianist Paul Stewart. Jennifer has conducted youth and senior choirs in New Glasgow churches and maintains a private voice studio in New Glasgow.

Pianist Karen Crowley is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in chamber music and accompaniment. She is in demand as an accompanist throughout Nova Scotia and her private piano studio continues to grow. Karen is music instructor at St. Joseph’s Academy as well as Director of Music at Trinity United Church in New Glasgow.
