First, there was Glenn Gould. Then Angela Hewitt. Now another great Canadian pianist is making his mark with his interpretations of the keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
On Sunday, May 26 at 2:30 pm, Walter Delahunt – resident piano master at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance (LAMP) – will continue his new series exploring the music of the great Baroque composer, whom Gould declared “the greatest architect of sound who ever lived.”
The concerts take place at the international performing arts school located in the historic Lunenburg Academy at 97 Kaulbach St.
A native of Wolfville, Delahunt has travelled the world performing both as a solo artist and in collaboration with such luminaries as the cellist Zara Nelsova, violinists Gidon Kremer and Ida Haendel, flutist Robert Aitken and his close friend Martha Argerich, whom BBC Music calls “the greatest living pianist of our times.” Indeed, Delahunt performed a sold-out duo concert with Argerich in support of LAMP in April 2017.
The Bach series is a follow-up to Delahunt’s two-year Beethoven sonata project.
Tickets are available now from Shop on the Corner, 263 Lincoln St, Lunenburg or by calling LAMP at 902-634-8667. Piano students aged 18 and under can obtain free tickets by calling this number.
