Toss off the winter blahs with the world music spectacular, CULTURALLY INAPPROPRIATE at Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance March 16.
Headlined by three-time All-India drum champion, Grammy winner and tabla superstar Sandeep Das, the concert — and the week-long music academy that precedes it — features eight top artists from Syria, Sri Lanka, India, Turkey and Canada.
They include sitar master Rajib Karkmakar, also from India; Istanbul-born Didem Basar (first at LAMP with Constantinople in 2016) on the fascinating Middle Eastern stringed instrument, the kanan; Syrian-born composer and musician Nazih Borish on oud (a short-necked lute common in Persia); Sri Lanka-born composer and pianist Dinuk Wijeratne, Canadian producer, composer and bassist, and LAMP regular, Roberto Occhipinti; violinist Yolanda Bruno (who most recently performed as part of LAMP’s Rossini Quattro concert); and drummer and world percussionist Nick Halley, a resident of Martin’s River.
Adding to the exotic flavour, LAMP has organized an evening of gastronomic globetrotting to precede the concert with dishes inspired by the homes and heritage of all the guest artists. Tickets for that event are $100 per person and include your concert ticket, a welcoming drink and all applicable taxes. To get yours, please call 902-634-8667 to reserve!
The Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance is a global center for advanced studies of performance and music interpretation located in the landmark Lunenburg Academy, a National Historic Site built in 1895. LAMP is grateful to Canada Heritage, the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, the Town of Lunenburg, Arts Nova Scotia, and other corporate and private donors for their support.
