The most unique of the Choral Feast will be presented by Musique Royale on Friday June 15th and is a special performance of the newly formed Eastern Horizon Chamber Choir. Under the leadership of Jack Bennet and Christina Murray and accompanied by Lynette Wahlstrom, the choir will focus on a collection of new works submitted by composers from marginalized identities to the Eastern Horizon Choral Writing Competition. Join our finalists Julijana Hajdinjak, Ryan Henwood and Marie-Claire Saindon and other works by Meredith Monk, Caroline Shaw, Stuart Beatch, Andrew Balfour and Ko Matsushita. The majority of works performed by Eastern Horizon come from composers who are still creating and thriving today, but this is the main highlighted feature the composers have in common: because their colorful backgrounds each carry a patchwork of unique successes and challenges. Eastern Horizon boldly explores these new choral works. Join Musique Royale at St John’s and enjoy interesting compositions from individuals whose identities have long been and continue to be underrepresented in the choral canon!
