Bluenose II Relaunch - September 29, 2012
Welcome to Lunenburg and the Relaunch of the Bluenose II
Saturday, September 29th
Beginning bright and early, the event will feature the official relaunch of the iconic vessel, musical performances and storytelling for all ages, and an evening firework display on the Lunenburg waterfront. All events are free.
Bluenose II Relaunch
7 am – 9 am
Depending on the level of the tide, the official moment of the relaunch should take place at approximately 8:10 am.
Family Stage
11 am – 2 pm
Located at the Zwicker Wharf on Bluenose Drive, this fun, family-friendly show will feature popular children’s entertainers, Donna and Andy, Razzmatazz, and Makayla. (Please note, the wharf is located half way between the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and the Dory Shop.)
Afternoon Main Stage
1 pm – 4 pm
Located outside the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive), the afternoon show will feature local entertainers, Glimpses and Collage.
Evening Main Stage
7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Located outside the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive), the evening main stage promises to deliver a night of fabulous music and storytelling.
Hosted by Lunenburg’s own Tom Gallant, the show’s headliners include Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea, Lennie Gallant, Laura Smith and Matt Mays. Other performers include John Gracie, Catherine MacKinnon, Chad Hatcher, Anne Ludlow, Samantha Gracie and the Bridgewater Fire Department Band. Finally, Michael Stanbury will perform The Bluenose Song; a piece he originally wrote and performed for the vessel’s launch in 1963.
Fireworks Display
9:30 pm
This will follow the conclusion of the evening concert.

Boxwood Music Festival

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia becomes the traditional flute playing center of the world during the last week of July each year as top performers, teachers, scholars, makers, students and enthusiasts gather for a week to learn and share. Many of the musical traditions explored at Boxwood typically employ simple-system wooden flutes, but it's not required that you bring one - nor is it necessary for you to even know how to play one!

days from high atop Blockhouse Hill to the Fisheries Museum of the
Atlantic wharf, this historic port is alive with music.
Paint Sea on Site and Silent Auction

Every summer the Lunenburg Art Gallery hosts a wet paint sale called Paint Sea on Site. As many as 70 artists converge on Lunenburg for a two day painting extravaganza.
