Lunenburg Waterfront To Come Alive

Organizers of the 1st Annual Lunenburg Waterfront Seafood Festival are in high gear preparing to welcome visitors to the Lunenburg Waterfront on the weekend of August 18th and 19th, 2007. The Lunenburg Waterfront will be alive with numerous activities during the Lunenburg Waterfront Seafood Festival.  Festival chair, Peter Zwicker says the committee has worked hard to present a quality event for the community that celebrates Lunenburg’s maritime heritageThe festival evolved from the Lunenburg Fisheries Exhibition and Fisheries Museum. The event will build on collaborative relationships with business, residents and volunteer organizations throughout the community and see a number of partner activities throughout the community.

This year’s events include the ever popular International Dory Races pitting rowers from Canada against our New England friends.  A new addition will be a mixed team race sponsored by the “Queen of Hearts Dory Club” Of Barrington.  Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Scallop Shucking Competition demonstrating the skills of those that go down to the sea in ships from various Nova Scotia ports.  New to the event will be a Celebrity Scallop Shucking Demonstration featuring local celebs including MP Gerald Keddy.
