Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance is pleased to present one of Canada’s most distinguished artists, pianist Jane Coop, performing an all-Beethoven program on Sunday, November 10 at 2:30 pm.
Born in Saint John, NB and raised in Calgary, Coop was 19 when she won First Prize in the CBC’s national radio competition (the Young Performers Competition) and this, along with First Prize at the Washington International Competition, launched her career.
Debuts at Wigmore and Carnegie Hall (now called Weill Hall) followed, as did concerto performances with the Toronto Symphony, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Victoria Symphony and the CBC Vancouver Orchestra.
Over the course of her career, Coop has performed in more than 20 countries and such eminent halls as the Bolshoi Hall in St. Petersburg, the Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Beijing Concert Hall and the Salle Gaveau (Paris). She has also recorded extensively and garnered multiple JUNO nominations. And through it all, she has remained resident in Canada.
At home, Coop has performed concerts from north to south: Whitehorse (Yukon) and Niagara Falls (ON), and from west to east: Tofino (BC) and St. John’s (Nfld) and many cities, towns and communities in between. In 2012, she was appointed to the Order of Canada.
A great lover of chamber music, Coop’s work with violinist Andrew Dawes, and her more recent partnership with cellist Antonio Lysy, have given her the opportunity to delve into the sonata literature of Beethoven, a body of music to which she feels particularly drawn.
She is an in-demand competition juror and has had a long and devoted career as a music educator at the University of British Columbia and beyond. We are thrilled to have her working with young artists here at LAMP.
Ms Coop will perform an all-Beethoven program (two sonatas and a bagatelle) as an early kick off to LAMP’s year-long 2020 celebrations, marking the 250th anniversary of the great composer’s birth.
Tickets for this limited seating event are $35 per person and are available now by calling 902-634-8667 or stop by Shop on the Corner, 263 Lincoln St, Lunenburg.
